Be a responsible neighbor and educate yourself and others about some very simple practices to improve your safety and the safety of your family and friends:
- Be observant! Report crime, suspicious people and activities to 9-1-1; reporting only on social media does not alert the police
- Know your immediate neighbors; trade schedules
- Set your security alarm every time you leave home
- When away from home, use timers on lights or leave on a radio or TV
- Place locks on ALL outside gates
- When working outdoors, always lock your doors and shut your garages; keep equipment in your sight
- Take a different route as you walk, jog or bike around the neighborhood – and take a different route home when driving
- Never leave items of value in your car … even for a quick run into your home; always LOCK – TAKE – HIDE
- Remove keys, door openers and belongings from view in your car and home
- Remove loops or grip from emergency garage door opener release; always lock the door into your home from the garage
One last and critically important tip …
NEVER open your door to a stranger! Tell them from behind the closed door that you are dialing 9-1-1 to assist them!!
